From 'Sweet' to 'Tasteless': Brave Entertainment Under Fire for Naming Upcoming Rookie Female Group 'Candy Shop'
Earlier on December 2, 2023, Brave Entertainment officially announced that the agency was preparing to debut a new female quartet in 2024.
"We are preparing a new, four-membered girl group, who is set to debut in the first half of next year," the agency shared. "Please look forward to a talented new girl group that has both popularity and musicality."
Brave Entertainment added, "The agency has decided to add the participation of Brave Brothers, who will bring quality production and planning capabilities, alongside Brave Entertainment's unique, trendy music."
The rookie group will mark as Brave Entertainment's first girl group since Brave Girls, who debuted in 2011 and disbanded on February 16, 2023.
On January 12, Brave Entertainment revealed more specific details regarding the rookie group. According to Korean news outlets, the group's name would be "Candy Shop."

Brave Entertainment also disclosed that the group was named "Candy Shop" since the word "Candy" was an acronym for "Catch N Draw Youth," and that "Shop" would symbolize the "space" that connects the members and their fans.
Furthermore, the members would also have different sets of charms and aspirations, resembling the various colors of a candy. With this concept, the group will appeal to listeners through fresh music that is well-loved by the current generation.
However, many weren't in favor of the name "Candy Shop," as many netizens gathered in an online community to express their dissatisfaction towards the company and Brave Brothers.
K-netz then criticized the name for lacking impact and presence, while others exclaimed how tacky-sounding it was. International K-pop fans also voiced out how exaggerated the name was, generating disapproval all over social media platform X (Twitter).
