"Birth of another masterpiece in the K-pop music history."
Aside from IU's impressive digital performance, proven by her top rank on various music charts, music critics also gave their insights about what made "Love Wins All" a huge hit.
On January 24, Korea's "representative singer" IU returned to the music scene with her pre-release single, "Love Wins All," featuring global pop star BTS V.
Upon its release, the digital source rose to the top of Korean and international charts, drawing massive love from fans all over the world.
The collaboration of IU and BTS V, along with Director Um Tae Hwa, undoubtedly made a significant contribution to this success, but music critics and professionals also lauded IU's singing and songwriting skills, which stood out through this release.
Reporter, Professor Impressed by IU's Vocals in 'Love Wins All'
Starting with Sports Korea's reporter Cho Seong Jin, he commended IU's tone, saying:
"The first thing that strikes me in 'Love Wins All' is the tone. The tones of various colors that are elegant and beautiful seem resolute at first, but it (eventually) makes me feel as if it's the best among IU's songs in history."
He added:
"While listening to 'Love Wins All,' I had this thought. Although IU is already a world star, her influence will expand even more as she gains more support and favor from others musically."
Oh Han Seung, a vocal professor from the Department of Practical Music at Dong-Ah Institute of Media and Arts also said:
"The glissando which appears twice in a row at the intro is so fascinating and luxurious. The lyrics are abstract yet personal. It also represents IU's perspective on universal, cool-headed and balanced love."
He went on by praising IU, saying:
"IU is a singer who spoke eloquently when she was young, and at some point, she naturally persuaded people with the words of the lyrics and 'demonstrated' her music with intellectual songs and restrained singing style. But this time, she went even further."
Musicians Laud IU's Songwriting Skills
Aside from her vocals, IU is also being lauded for her songwriting skills, unleashed even more through this release.
Kang Hwaseong, a well-known composer, music director and arranger, also shared his positive review of IU, especially on her narration skills through the lyrics.
"The development of the story is clear. The story reaches its peak as the rise of the emotional line becomes more extreme in the second half of the song.
It is impressive that the arrangement wasn't excessive. Although the emotions feel like they will explode even more, the intention of restraining stands out."
Director Kang also gave a thumbs up, continuing:
"The song contains a narrative that feels like watching a fairy tale or a movie, and as an arranger, it was even more pleasing that the sound and style rarely seen these days were used. It is an elegant and beautiful work that makes use of IU's beautifully unique tone and diction."
Lastly, Kim Se Hwang, a renowned guitarist, songwriter and arranger can't help but commend IU as well and said:
"Musically, it is lyrical and beautiful, and the atmosphere that seems to express the dramatic part of the luxurious animation is deeply expressed in Korean and IU's unique colors."
