(G)I-DLE Minnie & Yuqi To Take a Break From Activities Due to Health Issues
On January 26, 2024, CUBE Entertainment released a statement in Korean and Chinese to explain that Minnie and Yuqi had visited the hospital after experiencing symptoms that day, such as poor health and a fever.
Following a check-up, the doctor recommended that they take ample time to rest. With that, their activities have been postponed to allow them some time to recover.
They state that future activities will be carried out with the artists' health as their top priority. They added that they will inform fans of (G)I-DLE's adjusted schedule later.
CUBE Entertainment apologized to the fans for causing concern and expressed their resolve to assist their artists in regaining their health so they could meet their fans in high spirits.
CUBE Entertainment Under Fire for Overworking (G)I-DLE
Following the news, internet users looked into (G)I-DLE's previous schedules and discovered the reason the girls' health may be deteoriating.
On January 26, a post titled "I understand why (G)I-DLE's health is bad after seeing their recent schedules" was posted to a popular South Korean community forum.
Since (G)I-DLE's comeback with "Queencard" in May 2023, they have not had a break. They promoted the song for three weeks on music shows and performed at several university festivals. In June, they kicked off their world tour with "I am Free-ty."
The tour started with a two-day concert in Seoul on June 18–19. In Juily alone, they performed in Taiwan, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
Things became even more hectic when they started touring North America and Europe. In August, the girl group performed in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Atlanta, and Chicago, with only two days in between most shows. In Europe, the pattern continued in September: they performed in London, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Berlin.
They wrapped up the tour by performing in Japan on September 27–28, Macau on October 13–14, and Singapore on October 29.
After the tour, they performed at MAMA 2023 on November 28. After, they departed for the United States to perform at the Jingle Bell Tour. They performed in Los Angeles on December 2, Chicago on the 4th, Detroit on the 5th, New York on the 8th, Boston on the 10th, Washington on the 11th, and Philadelphia on the 12th.
After, they flew back to South Korea to perform in several year-end stages. They performed at Gayo Daechukje on December 145, Gayo Daejeon on the 25th, and Gayo Daejejeon on the 31st.
It was noted that in 2023 alone, the company issued five notices about the members' deterrent health.
After looking at their schedules, many expressed anger at CUBE. They claimed that the girls barely even have time to practice, noting that they also produce their own music. Many hope that once their contract expires with the company, they will leave as a group and find a home that will prioritize their health.
Some comments read,
"Ah, this makes me so sad."
"Crazy, isn't this freaking intense, though? It's severe."
"How do they even practice at this rate?"
"There are no idols with a worse schedule than (G)I-DLE."
"Let's just safely leave CUBE."
