ITZY Yuna Reveals JYP Entertainment Ranks Their Trainees
On February 1, 2024, ITZY member Yuna appeared on the third episode of "Afterparty Star." The YouTube show features the hosts of "Radio Star" as they discuss different topics post-show. While they are on the set of "Radio Star," they sit on tables and munch on snacks, featuring a more intimate setting.
During the episode, she revealed how her company, JYP Entertainment, ranks their trainees.
Yuna revealed that trainees under the company receive notification letters that indicate their rankings. The idol then confessed that, during her time as a trainee, she never made the top-tier rankings.
However, all the other ITZY members would consistently rank within the top ten.
ITZY Yuna Reveals She Almost Quit Being a Trainee Prior to Her Debut
Yuna then opened up about her struggles prior to her debut. She revealed that when ITZY was first formed, she was not part of the line-up. At the time, she felt her rank was too low and that she would be unable to debut after three years of being a trainee.
She stated,
"When ITZY was originally put together, I wasn't included in the lineup. At that time, I felt like my ranking was pretty low, and I was worried that I might not get the chance to debut with the team. By that point, I had already been a trainee for three years."
As she felt she would not debut with ITZY, she started thinking the idol life was not the right path for her. She started to consider quitting being a trainee and returning to her studies. However, she was suddenly placed in the line-up.
The idol candidly spoke about her feelings at the time. Though she was heartbroken over not making the line-up at the start, being suddenly put into the group also made her overwhelmed. Because of that, she worked hard to make sure she was not the weak link in the group.
She told the hosts,
"At one point, I even thought about giving up and going back to focusing on my studies. But then, unexpectedly, I was put into the group. Initially, when I didn't make it into the line-up, it was a tough blow. The uncertainty of whether I'd ever get to debut weighed heavily on me. However, when I eventually did join the team, the reality of the pressure started to sink in. Feeling overwhelmed, I pushed myself extra hard to make sure I wasn't the weakest link in the group."
