Here's what people are saying.
HyunA's 1st Instagram Post Since Controversial Dating News Announcement Receives Flak, A-ings Defend Idol
HyunA has taken the internet by storm due to the post she made on January 18, when she uploaded a post that confirmed her new relationship after her breakup with longtime boyfriend Dawn.
On January 19, the same photo was uploaded by former HIGHLIGHT member Yong Junhyung, which led fans to conclude him as the mysterious guy in HyunA's photo. While many were happy with HyunA's new relationship, her reveal eventually became a controversial topic across online communities.
In 2015, Yong Junhyung was investigated due to charges of receiving illegal videos from singer-actor Jung Joon Young during the infamous Burning Sun Scandal. This reveal eventually led Yong Junhyung to leave HIGHLIGHT, which was announced through a public letter in 2019.
The couple immediately faced backlash from the K-pop community, as both of the singers' Instagram accounts were flooded with disapproval and criticism.
Fans cancelled HyunA for dating someone who was once involved in such crimes and voiced disappointment since she has always been looked up to as a person who encourages empowerment and freedom of expression.
For moral reasons, numerous fansites of HyunA shut down in light of the reveal, as the idol had also lost over 400k followers on her Instagram account.

But the controversy from her dating news was still fresh among netizens, and this led the post's comments section to be filled with negative remarks. They also called out fans who still support HyunA.
- "K-pop stans defending a r@pe apologists is crazy."
- "Girl, you were very close friends with Go Hara because you didn't respect her a little, he's your late friend's ex-boyfriend."

- "You're definitely not cool at all."
- "No one supports you, girlie. Bye."
- "She thought she's the idgaf queen (she's not)."
Some drew out their opinions regarding HyunA, saying how her dating life wasn't anyone's business. Others countered this argument and stated how fans have the right to un-stan anyone. Here's how they reacted:
- "The thing is I understand she might be happy, but she can date who she wants? is not our issue."
- "We can decide whether to support her or not. That is our decision. People have the right to dislike what is happening and decide whether to continue listening to her music or not."
