In an online community, netizens discussed whether Taeyeon should leave her longtime agency SM Entertainment or not.
Here's what they're saying.
Should Taeyeon Leave SM Entertainment? Here's What SONEs Think
On March 8, fans gathered on a post titled, "I honestly think Taeyeon is better off if she left SM."
The author relayed that Taeyeon's solo endeavors are always being pushed back by the company and pointed out how her potential is being hindered. OP also elaborated on Taeyeon's content, which according to the post, is not being supported by SM financially.
It also mentioned how much the company lacks in providing support for Taeyeon's music videos, physical albums, and promotions. Read the full statement below:
"I've never felt like the company is pushing her that hard whenever Taeyeon releases a solo.
Even on YouTube, no one in the company wanted to do it, so she opened Taengoo TV by herself, and was even able to gain over a million followers by herself. She's also the one shooting her own vlog and hired her editors to edit her videos.
After a while, they made her an official YouTube account again, but they couldn't even come up with anything like her self-made content. Lately, fans sent them a truck, so they pretended to make a few content to shut them up.
However, if you look closely at her self-content, they use no budget to create new content, but rather just take out an additional camera when recording or filming, take pictures of the same event, cut them up, and upload them.
This doesn't mean that the company is keeping that money to invest in her physical albums either. Even when filing an MV, I don't feel like they spend lots of money on the set. It feels like they don't spend any money compared to small or medium-sized companies.
People who don't know better always talk about the 'taste of a big company,' but I never once felt Taeyeon received support from a large company.
Taeyeon silently prepared her album and concerts, she worked without receiving support from the company. But that alone made her one of SM's most influential figures.
At this point, it feels like the company is actually preventing Taeyeon from achieving her maximum potential. I think Taeyeon would hit even bigger if she left SM and went to a small or medium-sized company that would promote her singing career."
Fans drew mixed reactions to the post, with some stating that SM is the perfect agency for Taeyeon, while others agreed with the agency's lack of push for the singer.
- "Personally, I feel like if there should be anyone who should stay with SM, it would be Taeyeon."
- "Taeyeon doesn't get pushed that well though? A company that pushes you well will at least start sending you on international tours."
- "She doesn't get pushed at all. What push?"
- "I know you still won't be satisfied if she actually went for a smaller company."
- "I feel like they freaking push her, and that the album quality is always good. I've fangirled on a small company's idols so I know what it feels like."
- "SM is perfect for her though."
