Following claims that THEBLACKLABEL's upcoming girl group will be called MEOVV, fans are coming up with theories about its meaning and pronunciation.
On March 26, K-pop fans were sent into a frenzy after keen-eyed internet users found out that YG Entertainment's affiliate company, THEBLACKLABEL, has filed a trademark for the name MéOVV.
As the label confirmed that it will launch its first-ever girl group in the first half of 2024, fans were quick to claim that this word will actually be the name of the rookie team.
THEBLACKLABEL New Girl Group MéOVV: Meaning, Pronunciation, Fans' Reactions
THEBLACKLABEL filed for the trademark in various categories, which were said to be needed when creating a new artist. As of now, the label has yet to release its official position on this speculation.
But ahead of confirmation, K-pop fans are showing high anticipation and excitement, some are even guessing what will be its meaning and how will it be pronounced.
On various social media platforms including X and Reddit, web commenters claimed that it will most likely be pronounced as "MEOW," considering the French sound of the letter "é" and the "VV" (double V) is a play to the letter "W."
With this there are expectations that the concept of the group will lean towards the "cat-like" image, hinting at an elegant and classy aspect of the members.
On the flip side, some netters are thinking that it would be pronounced simply as "Move" or "Me-O-Vee."
As for its meaning, Redditors have an interesting take on it, suggesting that the name could be an amalgamation of two different existing words combined to form another word and meaning.

On the other hand, X users were already teasing the girl group, imagining that if they were really referred to as "MEOW," their intro better have the word "PURR."
