K-pop Idol to Make TV Show Return in 15 Years After SM Entertainment Banned Him

After SM Entertainment forcibly banned him from terrestrial broadcast, this K-pop icon confirmed his return to the mainstream channel after 15 years.

Can you guess who he is?

Kim Junsu Is Back! Icon Returns To TV After 15 Years

On April 3, former TVXQ turned JYJ member Kim Junsu announced his appearance on KBS2's entertainment show, "The Return of Superman."

As a result, his fans were elated as the superstar finally got the freedom to appear on national TV after SM Entertainment banned him from doing so.

According to the news, Junsu, also known as XIA, will visit rapper BewhY, who just joined the program as the new narrator in the childcare site after TVXQ Changmin's exit due to the group's tour hectic schedule.

The filming is scheduled to be aired at the end of April.

Following the news, fans and Cassiopeias (Junsu fans) rejoiced as it would be the first time that he would appear in an entertainment show aired on national television after over a decade.

This is after SM Entertainment forcibly banned him, as well as Kim Jaejoong, from appearing in terrestrial broadcasts, including music shows and entertainment programs.

As a context, his original label did this after Kim Junsu joined Kim Jaejoong in filing a temporary injunction against SM to suspend their exclusive contracts. The three members at the time left TVXQ after exposing the unfair contract terms they had with the agency.

Afterwards, they moved to C-JeS Studio and re-debuted as JYJ, along with Jaejoong. However, since they couldn't promote in South Korea, they mainly targeted the Japanese market and continued to expand their fame there.

In 2010, a partial amendment to the Broadcasting Act, the so-called, "JYJ Act," was proposed and enacted. It stipulates that the authority would sanction if a broadcasting company blocks a specific celebrity from appearing on a program without a justifiable reason.

Despite that, the mainstream channels still built a high barrier. Since then, JYJ would only appear in lesser-known web channels.

At the time, there were claims that SM would threaten music and entertainment shows that they would not let their other artists, such as Girls' Generation and EXO, go to their programs if they invited Junsu and Jaejoong.

Fans Infuriated After SM Entertainment Banned Kim Junsu from TV Shows

When the news was shared on X, fans hurled their frustration to SM Entertainment, mentioning that SNSD Jessica wasn't lying when she wrote in her book that the label blacklisted its former artists, limiting their activities in South Korea.
