As they faced racial discrimination, Stray Kids Bang Chan proved he was a reliable leader with his maturity during the 2024 Met Gala.
On May 6, 2024, Stray Kids made history as the first K-pop group to be invited to the prestigious Met Gala. All members - Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N - were in attendance and dazzled with their prince-like outfits and Tommy Hilfiger outfits.
However, it wasn't a totally positive experience.
During the carpet, the members of Stray Kids were racially discriminated against by the press and paparazzi who were tasked to interview the talents invited to the Gala.
Several reporters were seen calling the boys "robots" with some saying they had "never seen so many unemotional faces."
whether you are a fan of stray kids or not, NO ONE should have to be on the receiving end of such racist and vile commentary from photographers

Once videos started spreading of the racist experience, many were understandably upset that the members experienced that at their first Met Gala.
It was pointed out by fans that Bang Chan and Felix are native English speakers, and all the members are near-fluent in English thanks to their studying and international activities. It is likely they understood the comments that were hurled at them.
Though the members did not react to the racist comments, Bang Chan is attracting attention for his simple yet mature actions. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Stray Kids Leaves STAYs Breathless At Met Gala 2024 + Becomes 1st K-pop Group In History To Attend Event
The leader of Stray Kids appeared calm, with no signs of wanting to confront the racist photographers. Instead, after finishing the reveal of their outfits under their coats and allowing the photographers a few seconds to snap photos, Bang Chan promptly claps his hands.
This signaled to the other members that they needed to leave the carpet. Fans believe Bang Chan did this to avoid the negative and racist environment they were in that would potentially ruin their mood.
