aespa Almost Debuted With Innocent Image? MYs Recall Giselle's Role to Have Their Current Concept

On X, MYs brought back the important role played by Giselle so that aespa could have their current concept and not an innocent one.

Among fourth-gen idol groups, aespa shied away from the pure and innocent Y2K image and went for a unique worldview concept that connects AI characters & real humans.

Rather than the trendy easy-listening music that touches the topic of friendship and love, the quartet introduced a stronger approach that features unearthly beings such as "naevis" and "black mamba."

Despite this unconventional concept, they successfully captured not only K-pop but mainstream music enthusiasts, cementing their uniqueness and originality among other girl groups.

However, aespa confessed that prior to their KWANGYA worldview, the members almost had an innocent concept. Thanks to Giselle, this was changed for the better.

In particular, one fan recently shared a snippet from the documentary, "The aespa: My First Page" officially released in February. The film contains various stories about the members ahead of their launch in November 2020.

In the clip, Karina revealed:

"When it was just the three of us, we used to practice a lot of innocent concepts. After doing a lot of the same concept, Giselle came."

Karina then continued how Giselle basically became one of the reasons SM decided to debut them with their current concept, saying:

"Just like that, the concept became clear. Not too strong, not too weak, just in between and perfectly balanced. Giselle matched so well with us. Now that the members are formed like this, we are all so thankful to her."

Watching the clip, MYs (aespa fandom) expressed their love for Giselle and thanked her for technically making aespa as they are now.

Fans also used the video to defend the member from hateful comments wherein some netizens criticized Giselle for allegedly not matching the other members.

  • "This is why Giselle is the backbone of aespa."
  • "Glueselle."
  • "Thank you, Giselle!"
  • "Giselle's presence completes aespa."
  • "What if I cried."
  • "And some people want to discredit and out her from the group."
  • "Hot girl, we love you "
  • "It's ridiculous for fans who claim to be Mys to hate Giselle and wish her out of aespa. Giselle is the missing puzzle piece and Giselle is the backbone of aespa."

Meanwhile, as aespa enjoys its box office success with "Supernova," interest in their first full-length album "Armageddon" is also growing.

Earlier on May 13th, the double title song "Supernova" was unveiled and upon its release, it showed a record-breaking streak by ranking first on the MelOn Top 100 and Hot 100 and also on the daily chart (as of May 20).

Seeing this, fans are curious how the other title track, "Armageddon," which will be released on the 27th will surpass this feat. Other 8 b-side songs will also be dropped on the same day as part of the studio album.
