Even after the horrendous confessions of what the victims suffered at the "Burning Sun Gate," HyunA's fans completely turned their backs on her after she posted snippets of her trip to Japan with her controversial boyfriend Yong Junhyung, who was involved in the case.
On May 28, HyunA shared through her social media page a set of photos where she is seen enjoying her trip to Japan. Some initially thought of them as her usual, such as enjoying a hearty meal, going shopping, and getting cute accessories.
Unfortunately, fans were disappointed after noticing a silhouette of a man reflected on the wall of the clothing store. They immediately assumed him to be her boyfriend, Yong Junhyung.
HyunA's fans had been very supportive of her when it came to her romantic relationships, especially when she was with Dawn.
Despite dating being quite a touchy subject in the K-pop community back then, her fans fought in her stead and insisted on her right to be happy, even if it cost her being kicked out from Cube Entertainment.
After their breakup in November 2022, HyunA then plunged into another relationship in January 2024. She introduced her new beau, Yong Junhyung, formerly of BEAST.
This time, however, fans didn't give her support. Instead, this new relationship led her to lose a lot of fans. This was because they were disappointed and angered by HyunA's hypocrisy.
The songstress was known for advocating women's rights and empowerment, but she chose Yong who was involved in the "Burning Sun" scandal, where multiple cases of s**ual violence against women were recorded.
On May 19, BBC released a documentary film, titled "Burning Sun: Exposing the secret K-pop chat group," on YouTube.
The "Burning Sun Gate" was a popular Gangnam nightclub run by Seungri. But underneath its glamour were incidents of s**ual assault, r*pe, illegally filmed videos, and police corruption involving K-pop idols.
At the time, Jung Joon Young's secret KakaoTalk group chat was also exposed, where members Seungri and Choi Jong Hoon would exchange messages sharing videos and photos of their victims.
Upon digging, Yong Junhyung, HyunA's current boyfriend, was named to be involved in the "Burning Sun Gate" in March 2019.
At the time, he explained that he was not included in the group chat room, but admitted that he had personally shared and watched "molkas" with Jung Joon Young.
After his confession, he was kicked out of BEAST and enlisted in active duty in the same year. He wasn't given any punishment, and he didn't offer a proper apology to the victims.
Seeing that he remains active in the music scene while the victims hide in pain, fans can't understand how HyunA continues to enjoy her leisurely time without paying attention to the controversy.
