K-pop icon Rain looked back on the story of how Kim Tae Hee began to accept him after multiple rejections from the "Nation's First Love."

On June 3, K-pop legend Rain appeared as a special guest on Shin Dong Yub's YouTube variety show, "Zzan Bro." There, the veteran idol drew attention as he recalled the time he almost retired from the entertainment scene - not until he met Kim Tae Hee.

The "power couple" got married in 2017. Back then, Rain even earned the nickname "Nation's Thief" for "stealing" Kim Tae Hee, who was considered a "national treasure" due to her top-notch beauty and acting skills.

However, Rain revealed that their love story wasn't as K-drama-like as people expected it to be, as his wife originally rejected him, which made him give up on her as well.

In his anecdote, the "Rainism" singer shared that they first met while filming for a CF ad, and it was nowhere near love at first sight. Rather, they both think that they aren't each other's ideal type.

But indeed, even if Kim Tae Hee isn't your type at first, once you see and get to know her, it will be hard not to fall in love with her, and that's the case for the male icon!

Unfortunately, when Rain expressed his initial interest, he met his first rejection when Kim said that she preferred good-looking men.

While good looks are subjective and Rain is known for being an extremely sexy guy, viewers agreed that his visuals aren't in line with the Korean standard of being "handsome."

Persistent, Rain managed to get Tae Hee's phone number and invited her for a meal, which was once again, rejected.

Despite that, he continued pursuing the actress and developed a competitive spirit as she repeatedly declined him... until his military enlistment came.

He took one last shot and told Kim:

"I will go to the military in two weeks, can I ask you out?"

When she said "No" for the nth time, Rain decided to give up and entered the military.

It wasn't until 1 year later when the winds of change began to blow and continue the love story Rain and Kim Tae Hee hadn't even started yet.

The male star recalled:

"It was about a year later. When I was on leave from the military, I accidentally sent the wrong text message to Kim Tae Hee. This led me to ask, 'I'm on leave, let's have a meal together,' and she (surprisingly) said, 'Okay.' That’s how it started."
