HyunA has confessed the real reason why she gained 8kg (17.64 lbs).
On June 9, the first episode of "Umaizing Date" was uploaded to the "Umaizing Uhm Jung HwaTV" YouTube channel. For this episode, HyunA appeared as a guest. Host Uhm Jung Hwa engaged in a candid conversation with the soloist. As they spoke, HyunA opened up about her recent health challenges and issues with weight gain.
Uhm Jung Hwa praised HyunA's appearance, saying, "You look great these days." In response, HyunA admitted, "But I've gained weight. I have to diet. I've gained 8kg."
HyunA then explained why she wanted to diet and shed the pounds, saying, "I feel like I need to diet because my clothes don't fit anymore. I've been dieting for three days now."
The conversation took a deeper turn when Uhm Jung Hwa asked about HyunA's appearance on "Dancing Queens on the Road," mentioning, "I heard you fainted many times. Did you look even skinnier than usual?"
HyunA then opened up about her health challenges, stating, "Yes… I can't help it, there's a bit of a genetic factor. My mother has an unhealthy heart. I started fainting more when I was 26. It’s tough because I end up in the hospital twice a year."
HyunA continued, "The doctor told me that my health would improve if I gained weight, so I started eating healthier. My eating habits have changed since then." At her lowest, HyunA weighed 40kg, so she is likely in the 50kg range at the moment.
2024 has been anything but calm for HyunA. Earlier in the year, she became the center of controversy when she went public with her new relationship. Specifically, in mid-January, the former 4MINUTE member shared a photo holding hands with Yong Junhyung, a former member of Highlight, on her personal social media, sparking dating rumors.
The post sparked a frenzy on social media. In the comments of the post, HyunA asked fans to look upon them kindly. Soon after, Yong Junhyung shared the same photo, confirming it was him in the photo.

Both stars have been open about their relationships in the past. HyunA was publicly in a relationship with Dawn from 2018 until the end of 2022, while Yong Junhyung was in a public relationship with the late KARA member Goo Hara for about two years starting in 2011.
However, their decisions to make their love lives public have previously faced significant public scrutiny. This is due to Yong Junhyung's participation in the Burning Sun scandal, as well as HyunA's close friendship with Goo Hara in the past.
