Min Hee Jin's popularity among fans has left a sour taste on netizens.
While the CEO has been long known as an art director, producer, and the creative mind behind NewJeans, Min Hee Jin's fame increased ever since her viral April 26 press conference against HYBE, which led to a myriad of memes, fashion cores, satires, and community forums.
On June 26, an online post titled, "Min Hee Jin Came To Tokyo," was formed by netizens. According to the thread, the author uploaded two screenshots from a reel showing Min Hee Jin during her time in Japan.
The contents showed Min Hee Jin roaming around the LINE Friends pop-up store in Shibuya, as fans started mobbing the ADOR CEO to take pictures with her. Clips online also showed the CEO smiling while interacting with them.
The reactions to the clip and photos were mixed. Some netizens expressed awe at Min Hee Jin's popularity and claimed the CEO had natural star power.
- "Usually, people do get fans if they are in the art world. Movie directors have fans, visual artists have fans, and composers have fans."
- "Seeing the complaints here, you'd think that Min Hee Jin held a fan meeting or something."
- "To the comments below, Min Hee Jin isn't trying to be a celebrity, she genuinely has star power."
- "She just went to Tokyo, and fans gathered around her so what do you want her to do about it?"
- "She even made a brief press conference appearance, and her outfit sold out immediately. How is this her fault"
- "She was just passing by and Min Hee Jin was well-known even before NewJeans when she was with SM. That's why HYBE brought her on board right away, and why NewJeans trainees gathered under her."
- "Why are some of you so angry? Are you upset because it seems like Min Heejin has good luck?"
- "Sorry, but if you're going to criticize Min Hee Jin for going to Tokyo, then Bang Si Hyuk should have been stoned for playing the guitar at Weverse Con."
On the other hand, a huge portion of the K-pop community shook their heads with the mobbing. The viral clip also sparked reactions from platform X (Twitter).
- "I don't know why people let this woman get away with everything as if she's always the victim."
- "She brought so much unnecessary hate to other groups on top of her other creepy tendencies."
- "They are creeps like her so they have a lot of empathy for her."
- "Ew who wants a photo with a p*do?"
