After being accused of vaping indoors, BLACKPINK member Jennie released an official statement via her agency, ODD ATELIER, confirming the rumors.
On July 9, 2024, Korean media outlet Xsports News reported that Jennie's agency, ODD ATELIER, released a statement regarding the recent controversy. In their statement, they apologized to those who were concerned by Jennie's actions and acknowledged that she had smoked indoors.
They also expressed their desire to prevent the situation from occurring again in the future.
Their whole statement reads,
"Hello. This is OA Entertainment. We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie's action in the content released on the 2nd. Jennie acknowledges and deeply regrets her mistake of caping indoors and causing inconvenience to the staff. Jennie has personally apologized to all the staff on-site who may have been affected. We apologize to her fans who have been disappointed by this incident. We hope to prevent this from reoccurring in the future. Thank you."
Previously, on July 2, Jennie shared a vlog to her personal YouTube channel from her trip to Capri, Italy. Previously, the idol was in the city to attend a three-day event with the French luxury brand, JACQUEMUS.
Days after the vlog was posted, a netizen shared a snippet from her vlog, where Jennie was seen getting her hair and make-up done. Upon closer inspection, it was noted that Jennie had brought a black object to her mouth, and was seen exhaling smoke soon after.
While many are not upset that the female idol smoked, concerns stem that she may have broken a law. In Capri, Italy, the law strictly prohibits individuals from smoking indoors or in enclosed spaces. Many also pointed out that she was in a room full of staff members, who could be negatively affected by her vaping.
The idol has allegedly been reported to the Korean embassy in Italy for her actions. As of writing, it is unsure if legal action will be taken against Jennie.
