Amid BLACKPINK Jennie's indoor e-smoking controversy, a YouTuber insider raised an issue after revealing an anecdote about the idol's personality and treatment of people she's working with.
On July 9, Lee Jinho, a former reporter who became a YouTube insider uploaded a new vlog featuring BLACKPINK Jennie and her indoor smoking controversy.
In particular, the issue was raised after the star uploaded her vlog filmed in Capri, Italy. She flew to the Island for Jacquemus's event and while watching, keen-eyed internet users noticed that while getting her makeup done, she was blowing smoke toward the staff.
Initially, some defended Jennie that it was a diffuser, but later on, she personally confirmed that she was vaping indoors.
Regarding this, Lee Jinho explained why this scene became problematic even though Jennie is already an adult.
"It's not that problematic for adults to smoke cigarettes. However, the fact that she smoked in front of the staff has led to a personality issue."
The former reporter then shared an anecdote about Jennie's "entitled" personality, saying:
"Jennie is said to be very assertive even among the (BLACKPINK) members. The most notable case was her outfit choices. Girl groups don't prepare certain outfits for specific members, but rather prepare several outfits and the members choose the ones they like."
He continued:
"Jennie has her own unique fashion style, so she is said to be the first member to choose her outfit. Some have pointed out that she is self-centered due to this series of events. From a celebrity's perspective, isn't it greedy to want to stand out and look prettier? There are also many counterarguments that say it's because of her thorough self-management."
Going back to her indoor smoking issue, Jinho claimed:
"To be honest, it's true that she has no manners. Whether you smoke outside or indoors, it's common manners not to smoke in front of the staff."
But he also clarified:
"Jennie did not blow smoke in front of (the staff). Because we used the zoom to bring them closer, it seemed like the two were right in front of each other. They were a little further away than in the actual video."
Lee then revealed that in the industry, it is not a shock that an idol is smoking, on-site staff acknowledge that it is a common scene during photoshoots or schedules.
He explained that it is one of the celebrities' ways to relieve their stress, in the middle of their extreme diet for the shoot and they usually do it indoors to avoid unnecessary controversies.
On the other hand, Jennie through her one-man label, OA Entertainment apologized following the issue and attested to fans that she also apologized to the staff.
Amid all of these, BLINKs and Jensetters (fandom) comforted Jennie by leaving positive comments on her social media platforms.
