In a web forum, K-Netz and K-pop fans were embroiled in a heated debate about whether Red Velvet Wendy was prettier before or now.
On August 2 to 4, the quintet wrapped up its 2024 Fan-Con Tour, "HAPPINESS: My Dear, ReVe1uv" held at the Seoul Olympic Handball Stadium.
The event held to commemorate its 10th debut anniversary all sold out, and they also met global fans through its online broadcast via Beyond Live.
Following the event, the five members earned high attention with their photos & videos from the three-day concert, flaunting their unchanging youthful visuals & skills even after a decade.
But among the members, Wendy became a hot potato when netters noticed changes in her facial features compared to when she debuted versus now.
In the past, fans insisted that she was prettier back then with her pure and innocent looks. She also has the luxurious & rich Korean-American visuals that made her stand out among the quintet back then.
"If we take the typical standard of beauty, her current face may be prettier, but she doesn't have the luxury she had at the beginning of her debut... That rich girl vibe gives her a Korean-American vibe! That luxury is gone... Wendy, please stop! Don't touch her facial features anymore."
- "I think she was the prettiest when the Wendy cut trend first started. It’s a shame that she’s so addicted to plastic surgery now."
- "Power Up Wendy was a true legend."
- "The eyes are her eyes, but the nose is so unnatural. I liked Wendy's natural and innocent face. I don't know if it was unavoidable because of her facial injury, but anyway, it's a shame."
She allegedly reached her peak in 2019, when the idol introduced the viral "Wendy cut" hair which became a trend among K-pop idols & fans.
But now, netizens are disappointed that her beauty is similar to "Gangnam" beauty with her speculated "double eyelid surgery," nose enhancement, and other cosmetic surgeries.
On the flip side, there are also fans who prefer Wendy's appearance now, highlighting her more mature side. In the past, she looked more like a foreigner to some, but her recent visual change finally matched well with the other members.
- "Sorry, but her face looks so pretty right now."
- "Huh, it's much better now."
- "But I think she looks better now than before."
- "Anyone can see that she's pretty, but why are you bringing up old photos and saying that she was prettier in the past? Are you upset because her aesthetics were ruined, or because she became pretty, and you are jealous?"
