(G)I-DLE Soyeon Addresses Rumors About Her Leaving CUBE Entertainment: 'There Are No Hard Feelings'

Soyeon has officially addressed the rumors regarding her contract status under Cube Entertainment. The idol's actions eventually gained the attention of netizens and fans, who praised the (G)I-DLE leader for her professionalism.

Earlier on August 3, (G)I-DLE performed at the KSPO Dome, in Songpa-gu, as part of its third world tour "iDOL."

During one of Soyeon's solo stages, the rapper included an explicit rap verse saying, "F**k, my contract ends in November, no one can stop me," and "Who dares say anything?"

The verse's context eventually stirred the K-pop community, as speculations over the idol's contract status with Cube were raised online. Soyeon explained afterwards that it was a joke and that she wanted to be with the members for a long time.

Her explanation was also followed by the agency, which clarified that the lyrics were only a part of her performance and that the idol's actions will lead Cube to "suffer damages." However, the issue didn't recede despite the clarification attempts, prompting Soyeon to post a lengthy explanation on her Instagram Stories.

"My first concern will always be about how to make fans happy and second is to think about what I can deliver to make our team happier.

It might be challenging sometimes and some projects don't receive positive feedback. But I have never lied or voluntarily caused harm to anyone that would affect my conscience. In this performance, I did not lie or hide anything from the company.

I performed this in front of the agency several times during rehearsal and we made this stage. We have been through so much in the past ten years and I don't have hard feelings towards the company as portrayed by the media.

Because the true meaning of words can be twisted even if it's slightly miscommunicated. However, this situation seems to be a reminder of the company's lack of response. I will also do my best to work diligently so we can grow together.

I hope that any kind of worry or uncomfortable feelings have faded away. I will work hard so you don't have to worry, Neverland! I'm sorry, grateful, and I love you."

In a forum, alongside X (Twitter), K-Netz and international fans praised Soyeon for her professional demeanor and how she addressed the issue.

  • "Soyeon really handled the situation well."
  • "Her statement was more professional."
  • "The way she wrote that was so honest of her."
