Seungri Addresses Participation in 'Burning Sun' Event: 'I Will Remain Quiet So People...'

After announcing his participation in a "Burning Sun" event in Indonesia, Seungri released an official statement addressing the claims and other related issues involving BIGBANG's G-Dragon.

On August 8, an Indonesian event promoter released "Burning Sun Surabaya" posters describing it as a K-pop party night. The said gathering will take place at a gentleman's club on the 31st, listing Seungri as its "Best Honor."

When this news circulated among K-netz and international fandoms, the event sparked controversy.

The event was not only named after the controversial nightclub where sexual crimes occurred, but Seungri himself, recently released from prison for his involvement, was listed as an attendee.

Netizens left comments such as:

  • "There's no sign of reflection at all."
  • "You have no conscience."

In response, Seungri refuted these claims in an interview, stating that he would take legal action. He said:

:

"The Indonesian club report is completely untrue. I don't even know where the Indonesian region (Surabaya) in the article is. It's embarrassing. It's so obviously ridiculous.

I plan to respond strongly through a local law firm for infringement of portrait rights and defamation due to the publication of false facts."

Regarding rumors that he's planning to return to the industry after retirement, Seungri  also clarified:

"(After my release from prison), I've spent a lot of time with my family and have lived an ordinary life. I will remain quiet so that people won't get tired of stories related to me any longer."

In the same interview, Seungri apologized to BIGBANG's G-Dragon, whose name was mentioned when Seungri attended a party held at a club in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in January.

At the time, he had declared that he would bring G-Dragon to the country someday. But the former star reflected and said:

"I got drunk on the atmosphere and didn't behave well. It was wrong and I won't do it again."

Seungri also addressed initial reports about him opening a club in Hong Kong, stating:

"That's completely false. I've never thought about it or planned it. I have absolutely no intention of doing any club-related business, not now, nor in the future."

Seungri is a former K-pop idol who rose to fame as a member of the group BIGBANG, often referred to as the "Kings of K-pop," which debuted in 2006. His career ended when he left the group in 2019 following his involvement in the Burning Sun scandal.

This scandal centered around a nightclub in South Korea, where numerous sexual crimes took place. Seungri was identified as a key figure in the scandal.

He was also a member of a KakaoTalk group chat created by Jung Joon Young, where members shared "molka" (illegally filmed private videos) of their intoxicated victims.

Seungri was subsequently put on trial on nine charges, including prostitution, embezzlement, and instigation of special assault.

In May 2022, the Supreme Court confirmed Seungri's original sentence of 1 year and 6 months in prison. After serving 9 months of his sentence at Yeoju Prison in Gyeonggi Province, Seungri was released in February 2023.
