On December 16th, NewJeans launched an Instagram account with the handle, @jeanzforfree. This was created in the middle of the group's discord with their label ADOR.
In November, the quintet demanded a contract termination, but the company insisted that they are still their artists until the process is completed.
This account is expected to be their new hub for personal content, instead of the original Instagram account of NewJeans established by their label, which still posts updates about the team's official music schedules and brand promotions.
As of writing, the account amassed 2.4 million followers and the members have been posting their never-been-seen photos and videos. In response, their fans Bunnies are showing rave support by sending hearts.
Looking at their new account, keen-eyed fans then noticed the major change that the group might be hinting at.
From NewJeans, which could be a wordplay to the term New Gen, the team used Jeanz, which could be a wordplay for the term Gen Z, per one X account.
"NewJeans" can be interpreted as a "New Gen" so "Jeanz" can be interpreted as a "Gen Z", When you are a group of creative people โ๐ปโค๏ธโ๐ฅ pic.twitter.com/5y3LpZ8BZS

NewJeans members are from the Gen Z era, and also represent the generation with hits "Ditto," "Hype Boy," "Super Shy," and more.
This possible meaning still aligns with their original concept. Even if they are not NewJeans anymore, they could still be trendy and new with the name Jeanz, another fan emphasized.
So newjeans are not new anymore but theyโre still trendy and new(Gen Z)=JeanZ https://t.co/6Fre83VITb

Aside from the above-mentioned meaning, another interpretation is that its Korean name could be Jin-Ji, which is the honorific for the term meal. It implies that they "ate that up," an X user further said.
okay so if itโs jeanZ as in gen Z then Korean name is ์ง์ง (jin-ji) which can mean โmealโ in honorific which means they ate that up https://t.co/JmVOhbFEB6
