FT Island's Choi Minhwan revealed the three crises that plagued his marriage with former LABOUM's Yulhee, ultimately leading to their split in December 2023.
Their divorce was reportedly mutual, but the undisclosed details regarding their split sparked speculations, particularly when Minhwan received custody of their three kids: a son and twin daughters.
Due to this, Yulhee was painted as an irresponsible mother by Korean netizens.
The singer countered the public scrutiny last October when she revealed that she broke ties with Choi due to his frequent visits to adult establishments. She also filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband to revert the custody order.
This revelation led to Choi's hiatus from his career, as well as prompted an investigation for prostitute solicitation.
On January 13, in an exclusive interview with Dispatch, Choi unveiled startling new details of his turbulent marriage to Yulhee. The "Love Sick" singer pointed out two more crises that they experienced, wherein he blamed his ex-wife.
"Yulhee sleeps abnormally a lot. Sometimes, she sleeps 18 to 20 hours a day. If I bring it up to her, she gets really angry. And she (also) ran away from home," complained Choi, attributing that this behavior led Yulhee to neglect her responsibilities to her family.
"She's left the house more than 20 times in five years (into marriage). Who can stand that?"
When the interviewer considered that Yulhee must have been stressed taking care of three kids while he was serving in the military during the day (he commutes from social work to home), he dismissed it and explained that they hired help.
"When I was serving in the military, we hired a caregiver, who comes from 9 am to 4 pm. After my work, I took care of the kids. My mother also did the housework, such as preparing dinner, in addition to raising the kids. I never asked Yulhee to cook dinner or do the dishes."
The "BURN IT" singer brought up the divorce first in 2021 but they decided to reconcile.
But in 2023, another crisis unfolded for the then-married couple as Choi noted Yulhee's frequent nighttime escapades and running away from home, which initially lasted a matter of days but soon stretched into weeks.
"Yulhee's married life must not have been easy either. I understood and we reconciled. But after a while, she left again. She put on makeup while the kids were going to bed. She went out at night and came back at 5 or 6 in the morning. She just slept during the day. It was the same the next day, and the day after that," said the male star, stating that the issues led him to file for divorce.
