Even a megastar with a confirmed Coachella set isn't immune to worries when it comes to upcoming releases, confirmed BLACKPINK's Jennie.
The solo artist appeared as a guest on the Korean YouTube channel Ssook Ssook, where she confided in the hosts about her fears about her upcoming solo debut, Ruby.
The hard-working BLACKPINK member revealed that she'd been focused on getting the project out into the world for over a year, a timeframe in which she's also opened her own agency, Oddatelier, after departing from YG Entertainment for solo activities.
"I've worked hard on the music. But the world has changed so much," she confessed.
"These days, just releasing a song doesn't mean people will listen to it."
The "Mantra" singer added that the incoming nonstop influx of music and content makes it easy to feel like you're getting drowned out by the noise.
"So much content is coming out from everywhere. I want to do what my fans like, but I don't know what that is," she said.
"I have meetings with my company every day. There are so many younger generation artists now, and I find it hard to understand their style."
The Ssook Ssook production team suggested doing a dance challenge, a trendy advertising technique that emerged on TikTok as a way for idols to promote their music, for Jennie to engage fans with her upcoming releases.
Jennie admitted to being unfamiliar with the concept, though she's well aware of the magic that a viral dance challenge could work, notably BTS' "Dynamite," which accrued millions of views with its popular dance challenge.
"I've never properly done a challenge before. No one has ever asked me to do one with them," Jennie said.
The BLACKPINK rapper added that she didn't even understand how the collabs came to fruition.
"I'm really curious—how do they all exchange challenges like that?" she said.
Ssook Ssook's production team explained that it was a quick and efficient method to get eyes on your music with an attractive collaboration.
"A lot of them happen in the hallways of music show waiting rooms," they said.
Jennie, however, expressed disappointment at never having been invited to participate.
"Every time I go, there's no one in the hallway. Am I just going on days when no one is there? I was hoping someone would ask me to do one together, but no one ever did," she said.
The BLACKPINK member will make her solo debut with Ruby on March 7.
