'Monstar' Producers Resolve Sexual Harassment Controversy, Manager Cha Fired

On June 30 an extra from the Mnet cable channel music drama Monstar posted on an internet forum that she had been sexually harassed by a member of the show's production team causing a stir of rumors and controversial claims.

The extra claimed that the manager in charge of extras, named Cha, had called her aside and proceeded to touch her breasts and grope her butt as well as get on the floor in a compromising position in front of him. She also said that when she told the show's producers, they did nothing about it.

After her claims were made public, it was revealed that two other extras experienced similar harassment after being caught smoking.

A representative from Monstar's production team has now come forward with more information regarding the situation, including that manager Cha was fired from the team over the weekend.

"A lawsuit has been filed against Mr. Cha, the manager of the supporting actors on Monstar," said a representative for the drama's staff. "The manager has been fired as of last weekend."

To clarify the circumstances around the harassment claim, the representative continued, "The extra was not hired by us and the manager in charge of the supporting actors is not part of our production team staff. However, it is something that happened during the production process so if [the police] are going to investigate the production team, then we will fully cooperate."

After the accusations began spreading throughout the internet, Mr. Cha addressed the situation on his own.

"I only reprimanded the extras in question for smoking," he claimed in a news interview. "I wiped [the extra's] butt off once because there was dust on it. I can't help it if she felt uncomfortable with that."

He went on to defend himself by saying, "It is absolutely not true that I groped her chest and butt. Everything will be revealed through police investigations."

The production team for Monstar stands by their actions in how they handled the situation.

Another representative said, "Although it is a matter between individuals, because it is something that occurred during the production process of the drama, [the producers] tried to get them to meet and did our best to figure out what really happened."

He said that because they did take the accusations seriously and acted quickly, the show's staff was surprised the extra claimed they did nothing in response.
