Pokemon Developer Game Freak Unveils Solitiba: Gain Horse Racing Power-Ups By Playing Solitaire July 31!

Despite earlier speculations of a Pokemon crossover, developer Game Freak has unveiled its latest Nintendo 3DS eShop game, Solitiba!

Availabe in Japanese Nintendo eShops July 31, Solitiba is a mix between solitaire and horse racing, and uses power-ups gained through solitaire to help the horse and jockey win the race.

According to Nintendo World Report, the Game Freak release has a Solitaire Phase and a Control Phase.

"The Solitaire Phase simply has players playing solitaire while the Control Phase gives players a chance to control the path of the horse by plotting a path on the touch screen," writes Nintendo World Report contributor Danny Bivens.

So far, Game Freak and Pokemon fans are amused an a little confused by this strange release.

"I'm surprised there is a market anywhere for either solitaire or horse racing games.  Maybe that's the logic - that embarrassingly lame forms of entertainment don't have much of a market on their own but you if combine them you'll eventually make up a large enough target audience," writes Ian Sane on Nintendo World Report.

Currently, Solitiba has no Western release planned.

So while we wait for Pokemon X and Y, Japanese gamers can enjoy Solitiba by Game Freak.
