Selena Gomez talked about her break up with Justin Bieber on "Good Morning America," and explained their complicated relationship and rumors about their on-and-off again dating history.

Gomez said on the morning talk show yesterday that she still had feelings for Bieber, even if now they are only platonic.

"He and I have had such a history together and I'll always care about him and protect him if anybody tries to be mean," Gomez said.

The 21-year-old "Come and Get It" singer split with Bieber, 19, in late 2012 after dating for almost two years, ABC News reports.

However, the couple have remained close, fueling rumors that they continuously restart and end their relationship.

Earlier this month, Bieber posted a picture on Instagram of the two of them together, and they were recently spotted at a July 4th party, looking closer than just two friends.

However, ABC News reports that Gomez has confirmed that the two are no longer dating.

According to Perez Hilton, Selena also blames the media for making it look like her and Justin are still together.

"I think [the press does] kind of blow it up in a way and I do think they want to have something to talk about, so that's the easy thing to do," Selena said.

"I've known him for a really long time and we enjoy each other's company every now and then. But I'm definitely single and enjoying being that," Selena assured.
