‘Transformers 4’ Movie Begins Filming In Detroit; Shuts Down Highway, Rosa Parks Transit Center, And Rattles City With Explosions And Pyrotechnics

"Transformers 4" began filming on Wednesday in downtown Detroit, transforming the corner of Washington and Clifford into a movie set disguised as Hong Kong.

In the city's Washington Square area, crews for the movie have been building a Hong Kong street scene downtown for several weeks, MLive Detroit reports.

The Michigan Department of Transportation authorized closing M-52 in Adrian from 8 p.m. June 25 through 9 a.m. June 29 for some shooting in the area, the Associated Press reports. The Rosa Parks Transit Center will be shut Sunday for filming there.

Taxis and delivery trucks set the scene, while Cantonese characters acting as extras who appear to be protesters and a TV news crew advanced behind an armored vehicle, according to Deadline Detroit.

Props include a double-decker bus, crushed cars and a silver rail car from Chicago.

Filming and loud battle action scenes, including ones that will be shot at night, are scheduled to continue until next Thursday, with more pyrotechnics and other special effects.

According to the website, the bulk of "Transformers 4" is expected to be shot at Michigan Motion Picture Studios in Pontiac.

Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg, who will star in the film, says that his kids will also make appearances in a few scenes.

"All four of them are going to be in the movie," the actor told ABC News. "They're excited about that."

Wahlberg, 42, and his wife of nearly four years, Rhea Durham, are parents to Ella, 12, Michael, 7, Brendan, 4, and Grace, 3, ABC reports.

"Transformers 4" is scheduled for a June 27, 2014 release.
