Se7en, Sangchu Had Sentences Shortened, Military Favoritism Continues For Celebrity Soldiers?

According to some documents received by Korean news outlet Sports Seoul, the celebrity soldiers a the center of the recent South Korean military rule-breaking scandals actually served less time in military prison than they were sentenced to.

Se7en and Sangchu both served a total of ten days behind bars for their trip to a couple late-night massage parlors while on duty, and other celebrity soldiers who were caught breaking rules such as having cellphones were punished with four day sentences earlier this summer.

However, according to the new reports, the original sentences were twelve and five days, respectively.

The insider who revealed the truth told Sports Seoul, "After inspecting the situation of the management of the celebrity recruits, it was discovered that their sentences were decreased by one to two days from the original sentences."

"It was said that the celebrity recruits' confessions were extenuated and that was the reason for adjusting their punishments," he explained. "But now the Ministry of Defense cannot avoid accusations that they are showing favoritism towards the celebrity recruits."

The Ministry of Defense has addressed the matter. Speaking through a representative they said, "We took into account the point that the celebrity recruits were deeply regretful, so the punishments were less than the original."

Se7en and Sangchu made headlines in last month when paparazzi caught them visiting two different massage parlors late at night while on active duty serving in the military's special PR unit for famous soldiers.

The scandal ultimately resulted in the Ministry of Defense dissolving the entire celebrity unit.
