Hunger Games Casting News: Julianne Moore Elected President Alma Coin in ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’

Hunger Games Casting News: Lionsgate confirmed the rumor that Julianne Moore has been cast as the leader of the rebellion against the Capitol, in the role of President Alma Coin in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2.”

The third and forth installments of the Hunger Games franchise will be hitting the theaters in November 2014 and 2015. “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” which is the second film in the movie series, debuts on Nov. 22 in theaters worldwide.

Reports have been circulating since June that Francis Lawrence, the director of the Hunger Games movies, along with Lionsgate, who’s making the movie, was looking at Julianne Moore to play the role of President Coin.

Hunger Games casting rumors panned out in the case of Julianne Moore as Lionsgate confirmed today that she’s been cast in Hunger Games.

After Katniss, played by Jennifer Lawrence, is rescued by rebels, agrees to join the resistence, becoming a Mockingjay, if President Alma Coin, the leader of the rebellion against the Capitol, grants immunity to all of the Quarter Quell participants. President Coin also allows Katniss to kill … well if you haven’t read the book, I’m not the one who’s going to ruin that for you.

In the third and fourth installments of the franchise, “Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1& 2,” Julianne Moore will star opposite Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Academy Award for her role as Katniss in the first The Hunger Games.

Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, the sexiest man alive will be returning for the next three films.

Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 1 will release in theaters November 2014 and the second part is scheduled for release in November 2015.

Julianne Moore played Sarah Palin in “Game Change” on HBO last year and snagged a Best Actress Emmy. Moore will co-star in the upcoming remake of the Stephen King classic “Carrie.” She willplay the evangelical mother that Piper Laurie played in the original. Carrie will be directed by Kim Pierce. Moore will also co-star with Jeff Bridges in “Seventh Son,” which will hit theaters on Oct. 18.

Julianne Moore also stars with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson in “Don Jon,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Don Jon will hit theaters on Sept. 27.

The first “Hunger Games” film grossed nearly $700 million at the worldwide box office. Lionsgate expects great things for the second installment.
