Microsoft Buys Nokia To Hinder Potential Android-Powered Lumia Phones

Ever since news broke about the deal between Microsoft and Nokia, speculations have spread like wildfire. One reason raised by analysts is for Microsoft to get former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop and replace its outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer. Another, which is is also theoretically possible, is that the Redmond company does not want Nokia to start producing Android-powered devices.

According to a news report from Techno Buffalo as stated in the New York Times, there could have been a slight possibility that one of the Lumia smartphones would have run Google's Android platform. The report said that a small department inside Nokia actually had several Lumia phones running on Android.

We don't know if this means Nokia was also thinking about moving to Android or it was just for testing and competition's sake, but apparently, a few weeks later Microsoft came up with the big news which startled the industry.

If we think about it, Microsoft is just trying to save its investment in the Windows Phone OS, eventually 'killing' Nokia in the process. The Finnish manufacturer's Lumia lineup account for more than 80 percent of all sold WP phones, so that makes perfect sense.

However, Nokia's sale will definitely end our hopes of seeing an Android-powered Lumia smartphone.
