Channing Tatum Wants To Play Gambit [VIDEO]: Complete With A Cajun Accent, ‘Magic Mike’Star Reveals Geeky Side

In an interview with Total Film, Channing Tatum, one of Hollywood’s hottest actors today, has aired his secret desire to play a role in a superhero movie. It reveals his geeky side, as a solid comic book follower.

“I would like to play Gambit. Gambit’s my favorite. I’m from New Orleans, around that area. My dad’s from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real. No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, ’cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people. Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking [guy]. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line.”

Taylor Kitsch played Gambit on the previous Wolverine movie, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” The movie did not meet expectations on all fronts. Gambit is one of the most popular characters in the X-Men Universe, and his introduction in “Origins” failed along with the movie.

The interview revealed Tatum’s geeky side. He knows a lot about the character, right down to the accent, even the history of the character. Gambit was a mutant who came from a clan of Thieves. Their clan had a feud with the clan of assassins. The story revolved in New Orleans, and Tatum also hails from New Orleans.

Will solid X-followers accept Channing Tatum as Gambit (assuming the character is revived)? Gambit has a dark, mysterious chracter about him while Tatum has been identified with mainstram romantic movies.
