Maria Sharapova Tells Larry King She’s Not Engaged That She Knows of; Holds No Grudge Against Serena Williams

Maria Sharapova’s boyfriend might be the last to know. Four-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova didn’t compete at the U.S. Open last week, but stayed in the headlines.

Maria Sharapova’s Twitter posts show that the tennis star has been making the rounds on talk shows and going to New York Fashion week events. But Maria Sharapova isn’t getting married, that she knows about.

The 26-year-old tennis star Maria Sharapova has been denying growing rumors that she is engaged to boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov. Rumors started circling that Maria Sharapova and 22-year-old ATP player Grigor Dimitrov got engaged last weekend when Maria Sharapova was photographed wearing a ring on her left finger during an appearance at New York Fashion Week.

Maria Sharapova denied the engagement rumors when she sat for an interview with Larry King. Maria Sharapova said “No, I’m not getting married. Not that I know of!”

Maria Sharapova and Larry King talked about a variety of subjects ranging from her break with coach Jimmy Connors after one match (”It was just not the right fit, wrong timing with my injury with everything going on. It was just not the right time.”) to how she’s coping with her shoulder bursitis and about rivalries in the locker-room (”It’s tough for me to imagine being friendly and having a friendship with someone and then the next day going out on the court and trying to beat them. I don’t think that’s fair. So I avoid it.”).

Maria Sharapova said she plans to play the season-ending WTA Championships: “That’s my goal. I really want to finish with that tournament this year. But I also want to heal my shoulder. It’s going to take as much time as it needs. Bursitis is a bit tricky because there’s not much you can do for it except wait for it to get better. I’m not a patient person so that makes it extremely difficult.”

Maria Sharapova told Larry King that she lost the best match she ever played. She said “The one I lost against Justine Henin at the 2007 year-end championships in Madrid. It was like a three-and-half-hour battle, but looking back, that was a fun match to be a part of.”

Maria Sharapova also told Larry King that she doesn’t hold a grudge against Serena Williams: “Not at all. A lot of things in [the] press are overplayed. I’m sure you know about that.”
