Legend Of Korra Creators Discuss Dark Avatar, Jinora, And 52 Episode Length Of Entire Series

"The Legend of Korra" Book 2 has just premiered and co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino sat down for several interviews to talk about the series.

In talking with EW, the interview brought up the potential for a dark Avatar in "Legend of Korra."

"Mike and I are always drawn to the idea that there is light and dark inside every being, rather than the old two-dimensional trope of good versus evil," says Konietzko.

"We are more interested in our characters struggling with the balance of those opposing forces inside them. Even Aang had great rage inside of him that he couldn't control when he went into the Avatar state and started smiting everything and everyone around him."

In talking about "The Legend of Korra" Book 2 premiere, one character who seems to have a special connection to the Spirit World is Tenzin's daughter Jinora. And it seems Jinora will have something to do with the introduction of the first Avatar Wan.

"It could! You'll have to wait and see," says Konietzko.

And in Vulture, the length of "The Legend of Korra" has been confirmed to be 52 episodes in total, with a definitive ending in sight.

"Korra and her friends don't reset at the end of each arc. Their character arcs continue through the entire series, and the events and developments build on each other from book to book. It all feels organic to us, and completely in keeping with the continuous story line structure we established with 'Avatar,' basically just with more bad guys," continues Konietzko.

"And we like coming up with bad guys. So no, Book One is not a prelude to the rest of the series. It has just as much weight as the subsequent books, which are of similar lengths: Book Two is fourteen episodes; Books Three is thirteen episodes; Book Four is thirteen episodes; and the series is 52 episodes total."
