Insidious 2: Another Sequel In The Works Despite Mixed Reviews; Director Leaves Horror For 'Fast And Furious 7'

"Insidious Chapter 2" was the much awaited sequel to the surprise 2011 hit. It received mixed reviews, but enough success to merit yet another sequel. However, they need to find a new director as their helmsman will move from horror to the "Fast and Furious" franchise.

The reviews for "Insidious Chapter 2" were not as overwhelming as its predecessor.

However, producers credit that to heightened expectations. In a joint statement credited to Peter Schlessel (FilmDistrict CEO), Xavier Marchand, (eOne President) Film Production, and Steven Bersch, President of SPWA:  "The release of the first 'Insidious' resonated with audiences around the world and quickly became one of the most talked about films in 2011. This weekend moviegoers enjoyed the terrifying continuation of the first film and we are confident they will be excited to see the third chapter of the 'Insidious' world. There is nobody better suited to bring audiences the next chapter of this haunting story than Leigh who has brilliantly written both 'Insidious' and 'Insidious Chapter 2."

Leigh Whannell, writer of the first two titles, has signed on for the third chapter.

However, director James Wan, has declared that he is quitting from the horror genre.

In an interview with Moviefone:  "I'm going to go on record and say I am finished with the horror genre. Conjuring and Insidious 2 are my two last scary movies.  I spent the last ten years of my life doing this. It's time for a change, for goodness sake!"

There is a rumor that Justin Lin, director of "Fast and Furious 6" might make the jump to horror from action. That would make an interesting trade-off. Both directors have reiterated that they do not want to be typecast into a genre.
