Gabby Douglas Biopic Greenlit As Jordyn Wieber Joins Fellow Olympic Champion At UCLA, Will 2016 Rio Still Be In Their Future?

As the post-Olympic gymnastics season comes to a head at the 2013 World Championships, Gabby Douglas and Jordyn Wieber will not be present.

Gabby Douglas, on top of a whirlwind of engagements, will be training for the 2016 Olympics in Rio with UCLA Associate Head Coach Chris Waller.

After leaving her Olympic coach Liang Chow, Gabby Douglas will reunite with her family as they relocate to Los Angeles.

"Being back with my family is such a joy because I was away from them for a very long time," says Douglas according to USA Today.

"I know how hard it was for me when I grew up. When people would support us because we were struggling I knew how important that was to my mom and my family to keep me in gymnastics."

But Douglas will also be seen on the small screen in the form of a Lifetime biopic, tentatively titled "The Gabby Douglas Story."

According to LA Times, the film will be produced by Sony Pictures TV, and will star Imani Hakim as Gabby Douglas, and Regina King as her mother.

Despite making a heavy push to get back into training, Douglas will reportedly make a cameo appearance in the film.

But Gabby Douglas will also have a potential training mate in fellow 2012 Olympic gold medalist Jordyn Wieber.

Wieber will be attending UCLA starting this month, and will also work with Waller for her gymnastics training.

However, Jordyn seems more reticent to commit to training for the 2016 Olympics in Rio than early in the year. Given the depth of USA gymnastics and her soon-to-be academic career, perhaps Jordyn Wieber might take a different path than Gabby Douglas in the coming years.
