High School Football Player Dies From Helmet-To-Helmet Collision Friday In Buffalo: Damon James Loses Life From What He Suffered On The Field And It's Not First Of Its Kind Recently

High school football player dies from helmet-to-helmet hit in Buffalo, N.Y. during a varsity football game Friday night.

Officials at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo made the announcement Monday that the high school football player, Damon James, dies after he lost consciousness after a helmet-to-helmet hit in a game Friday night. He was 16.

The high school football player was from Brocton, the small Chautauqua County village in Buffalo. An ambulance helped take him off the field and bring him to a hospital where he was unable to survive from the injuries he suffered during the collision.

"To those who have supported and prayed for Damon and his family, and continue to request that their privacy be respected at this time," the family of James said in a statement.

The New York State Sportswriters Association said Janes' death was the third to occur in the state in the last three years among high school athletes. Twenty-five high school football players died from injuries on the field from 2003 to 2013.

From the NFL, to college ball to high school and pee-wees, football has shown how physical of a sport it can be. New programs like heads-up, has been developed with the help of the NFL to teach kids a newer way than it has been taught in the past to tackle. With more knowledge of brain, spinal and head injuries, there is trying to be a change, though that doesn't take away from the dangers of the sport.

According to the Annual Survey of Football Injury Research prepared by the National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, there were 25 fatal injuries to U.S. high school football players between 2003 and 2013.
