AAA $3 Gas 1,000 Days And Counting: History In Recent Years In The U.S. When It Was Less Than $2, 10 Years Ago

AAA $3 gas lasted 1,000 days and keeps going for nearly three years in the U.S.

The national average today for a gallon of regular gas is now $3.52, according to AAA and it has been at least $3 for the past 1,000 days, which dates back to Dec. 23, 2010.

It was 1,000 days ago when the national average for gas was $4, according to AAA.

"Paying less than $3.00 per gallon for gasoline may be automotive history for most Americans, like using 8-track tapes or going to a drive-in movie," Bob Darbelnet, CEO of AAA, said in the release. "The reality is that expensive gas is here to stay."

He added: "While a few lucky drivers may occasionally pay less than $3.00 per gallon, the national average is likely to remain more costly into the future."

It has been steady and that could make Americans happy where there were times a few years ago that the price bumped over $1 in a matter of few months.

"The market took a chill pill and is reacting as I would expect to the prospect of a peaceful resolution," Patrick DeHaan of Gasbuddy.com told USA Today. "I could see the national average in the very low $3 (a gallon range) by the time we're talking about last minute Christmas shopping."
