"Iron Man 3" was supposed to close the Iron Man series, and Tony Stark will only be seen with The Avengers. However, fans won't accept the ending, and Pepper Potts herself feels a whiff of the armor is not enough.

Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Pepper Potts in  the movie, donned the armor, called the 'Rescue' armor for a limited time in "Iron Man 3." It felt like a good fit, as Gwyneth shares this statement: "I don't even know if there is an Iron Man 4. I hope there is an Iron Man 4, I hope I'm in it."

Robert Downey, Jr only signed up for three Iron Man movies. He has a contract for 2 more Avengers movies, including "The Avengers: Age Of Ultron" which they are currently filming. It's a no-brainer that Marvel wanted him to stay on, but the negotiations became trick as Downey played hard-to-get.

Despite all the complications,  fans continue to hold on to the thought of having another full-feature Iron Man movie. A website entitled ironman4.net has updates and reports about any news that can possibly be used as evidence for their case.

In the website they report:

"While attending the UK Premiere for Iron Man 3, director Shane Black stated that Robert Downey Jr. will be back for Iron Man 4. "I think he'll be back for another one. I'm sure of it," Black told Bang Showbiz. There has been recent question as of late if Robert Downey Jr. would return for Iron Man 4 as most recently the actor questioned how much longer he would be involved. He recently talked with GQ about retiring from the character. "This period of time, this shall pass," Robert Downey Jr. said. "Fortunately I've been around the block enough -- I'm not ill-prepared. And I love change. I love it when a lightning bolt hits the genny and you're down for two hours on the set. Now, this isn't a lightning strike, this is like the warning of a gathering storm."

Marvel has also stated that they might treat Tony Stark as a timeless character, like James Bond. Thus, other actors could don the gleaming armor in the future.
