Pokemon X And Y Pokedex Unveils Fossil Evolutions, Aurorus And Tyrantrum: What Dinasaurs Are They Based On?

Pokemon X and Y is just around the corner, and another Pokedex update has surfaced, revealing the evolutions to the fossil Pokemon Amaura and Tyrunt.

Meet Aurorus and Tyrantrum. Whereas Tyrantrum, like Tyrunt, is a Rock/Dragon dual-type, Aurorus is a Rock/Ice dual-type.

"It can expel air as cold as -240 degrees Fahrenheit to damage enemies, or even form a wall of ice as protection," writes Nintendo Life on Aurorus.

According to Pokejungle, Aurorus knows a new attack called Freeze-Dry, which is super effective against Water-type Pokemon and may freeze opponents. Given that Water-type is only weak against Grass and Electric-type moves, it'll be interesting to see how this is possible.

As Pokemon X and Y fans may know, these two Pokedex additions will be given to the players in the form of fossils, and like earlier generations, we will most likely have to choose between the two.

"Well, I'm going with Amaura, my brother likes Tyrunt, my mom likes Amaura, and my dad likes Tyrunt. Luckily, I have my brother to trade with so I can get both. Not sure about my sister, though I'm pretty confident she likes Amaura," says Pokejungle user Jiro Uchiha.

"Tyrunt's evolution is so bad ass and so scary that it's actually prompting me to pick Amaura. I love both designs so much, but Tyrunt's evo is even scarier than Mega Garchomp," says heavymetallamb.

Given that both Pokedex additions are clearly based off of dinasaurs, fans are curious what real-life inspiration helped create these awesome creatures?

The common consensus for Amaura and Aurorus is that both are based on Amargasaurus. Meanwhile, Tyrunt and Tyrantrum are obviously based on the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
