‘Rush’ Lead Stars Chris Hemsworth And Daniel Bruhl Reveal Extensive Preparation For Roles; Insist Racing Film Is ‘Less Cars, More Character’

The movie about real life racing rivals "Rush" had a successful New York Premiere. The lead stars, Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl, took extensive research and preparation to portray their true to life roles. They want to dispel the notion that the film is just a racing action trip.

Chris Hemsworth, which most people recognize as "Thor" in his own movie and the megahit "Avengers" had to lose 30 pounds for the movie. This is to be faithful to his role as James Hunt. Also because it would look better on the race suit, and to differentiate himself from Thor.

The Australian superstar plays James Hunt, a playboy Formula 1 Driver who lived a reckless, fast paced lifestyle that mirrored his vocation. Hunt died in 1993 at the age of 45, and they had to research about him. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Hemsworth reflects: "There were all these tabloid versions of who this guy was and the outrageous things he got up to... but what I loved about him was the honesty he lived with, it was take it or leave it, this is who I am. There was a childlike nature to the guy," he said, "and you know, amongst the cockiness and bravado, there was a bit of vulnerability and insecurity to him, and that spoke volumes about who he was."

In contrast, Bruhl's character, Niki Lauda from Austria, is now 64 and helped a lot in filming the movie. Even with the Austrian accent. Bruhl shares: . "It was the most important thing [about the preparation] because I could ask him questions. We'd call him at six in the morning to bounce stuff off of him, a question about Formula One in the script, and he would say no, no, that's bulls-t.... He's very happy and proud of the movie which is a major thing for me. He's so blunt, he would have told if he wasn't."

"Rush" opens in theatres on September 27.
