Ann Curry On Interview With President Of Iran: His Holocaust Comments ‘Will Likely Raise A Lot Of Eyebrows’

NBC News' Ann Curry had the rare opportunity to interview the new president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani. In the interview, the Iranian president shared some "non-answers" with Ann Curry regarding the Holocaust.

The Today Show aired a segment of Ann Curry's interview with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani that shared his views on the Holocaust, Mediaite reports.

Curry told Today's Savannah Guthrie that Rouhani's "non-answer" about the Holocaust "will likely raise a lot of eyebrows."

In the interview, Curry asked Rouhani about comments his predecessor, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, made in the past about the Holocaust being a "myth."

She asked Rouhani, "Do you agree?"

"I'm not a historian," Rouhani began in the interview, Mediaite reports. "I'm a politician. What is important for us is that the countries of the region, and the people, grow closer to each other and that they are able to prevent aggression and injustice."

Curry did not press Rouhani for a firmer answer on her question, but rather went on to ask if he, like Ahmadinejad, wants to "wipe Israel off the map."

Again his answer avoided specifics.

"We do not seek war with any country," Rouhani responded. "We seek peace and friendship among the nations of the region."

He used similar vague terminology when Curry asked about Iranian access to websites like Twitter and Facebook.

Rouhani did not say specifically whether his government would remove its censorship, but rather that "people must have full access to all information world wide."

The president of Iran also vowed that his country will never develop nuclear weapons, CNN reports. He told NBC News that he is open to diplomatically resolving issues surrounding his country's controversial nuclear program.

"We have never pursued or sought a nuclear bomb and we are not going to do so," Rouhani declared.

He later added, "We have time and again said that, under no circumstances, would we seek any weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons. Nor will we ever."
