Elizabeth Berkley Shrugs Off Val Chmerkovskiy's Sarcastic Snub on `Dancing With the Stars’; Reunites with Mario Lopez

Elizabeth Berkley’s `Dancing With The Stars” debut dance earned her straight 8s, but she still comes in second with her new partner. Elizabeth Berkley taught Val Chmerkovskiy a thing or two growing up, like how to speak English, but apparently nothing about tact.

On Monday night’s “Dancing With The Stars,” Elizabeth Berkley found out that professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy learned how to speak English by watching Elizabeth Berkley’s old show, “Saved By The Bell,” but he didn’t watch it for Elizabeth Berkley’s character Jessie Spano.

On the “DWTS” season premiere, Val Chmerkovskiy told Elizabeth Berkley that he preferred Kelly Kapowski, who was played by Tiffani Amber Thiessen.

Elizabeth Berkley isn’t the first star to feel the brunt of Val Chmerkovskiy’s rude tongue on “Dancing With The Stars.” Val Chmerkovskiy’s told Kelly Monaco he was old, he told Zendaya Coleman he was disappointed that she was so young.

“Showgirls” star Elizabeth Berkley figured Val Chmerkovskiy was attracted to the similar Easter European name of Kapowski.

When Elizabeth Berkley exclaimed “You learned English by watching ‘Saved By The Bell,’” Val Chmerkovskiy cut her off with “Honestly, I was a fan of the other one. I had a crush on the other one. What was her name?”

But that wasn’t the end of the “Saved by The Bell” comparisons. After rehearsal Val Chmerkovskiy’s told Elizabeth Berkley, “Kelly Kapowski would have probably been a little better.”

Elizabeth Berkley explained that it is all about trust. She told Access Hollywood “My own stuff is coming up — just being led by someone and trusting and surrendering to that. That’s something daily he’s kind of instilling in me, that I can trust him. We’re building a beautiful trust, and I’m excited to see what that feels like.”

Val Chmerkovskiy wrote on his NBC Blog that it was all in good fun, “I’m sarcastic all the time. Elizabeth understands that. If anybody took what I said about liking another character more than I liked Elizabeth’s seriously, then I don’t want to be friends with them.”

Elizabeth Berkley, who played Jessie Spano, and Mario Lopez, who co-starred as A.C. Slater on “Saved by the Bell,” y reunited for a tango for two on Mario Lopez’s show, “Extra” when Lopez caught Elizabeth Berkley with her thirteen-month old son Sky Cole back in June. Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez have stayed close friends since “Saved by the Bell” ended in 1993.

Mario Lopez tweeted, "Tango time with my girl @ElizBerkley on @ExtraTV! So proud of you."

Mario Lopez finished second on “Dancing With the Stars” Season 3 in 2006.

On the “Dancing With The Stars” kick-off, Elizabeth Berkley scored 24 points with Val Chmerkovskiy.
