Carl Yastrzemski Statue Revealed Sunday At Fenway Park: Celebrating 18 All-Star Selections, 3,000 Hits, 7 Gold Gloves In Boston For The Red Sox

Carl Yastrzemski statue revealed Sunday outside of the right field entrance at Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox.

The 18-time all-star and was the last triple-crown winner in the A.L. until Miguel Cabrera achieved it with his M.V.P. season that year and a legend of the Fenway-Faithful as they honored his legacy by revealing the Carl Yastrzemski statue.

Carl Yastrzemski was a seven-time Gold Glove winner and a member of the elite 3000-hit club. For his career, he hit with a career .285 batting average, 3,419 hits, 452 homers and 1,844 runs batting in. Sunday morning, the statue was revealed.

"It means tremendous importance to me," Yastrzemski said, standing at the base of the statue after a 30-minute ceremony that included some of his former teammates and current members of the AL East champions. "This is as important to me as being elected to the Hall of Fame and having my number retired. It's a tremendous honor."

Boston, which clinched the AL East title on Friday night, won just 69 games and finished in the division's basement last season.

"In a way there's a lot of similarities, playing as a great, great unit," Yastrzemski said. "Different guys doing something everyday. That's what you need to win the division, which they did. The comparisons I make is it was a very tight unit. I'm just waiting for the playoffs. I can't wait for the playoffs to start."

He was inducted into the hall of fame in 1989. He also threw out the first pitch to David Ortiz Sunday.
