iPhone 5S Sales: Apple Sells Over 9 Million Units In First Weekend, Initial Supplies 'Sold Out' Says Tim Cook

During the first weekend since the two new iPhones have been released, Apple reportedly sold more than 9 million units. However, the company did not specify the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5C sales.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, 9 million is a new record for most iPhones sold during the first three days of release.

"While we've sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone's patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone."

Last year, the iPhone 5 managed to sell 5 million units within three days. However, one can wonder that it is just but proper for the Cupertino manufacturer to sell more iPhones simply because it launched two new models, compared to previous years when it only announced one.

While 9 million units is definitely impressive, what most analysts and experts are fearing is that there might not be enough supplies to meet market demands, especially in China where Apple has focused its efforts in penetrating the Android-infested nation.

Aside from unit sales, Cook also mentioned that there have already been 200 million activations of the new iOS 7 update for iPhone, iPod, and iPad users.
