'Dexter' Final Episode[SPOILERS]; Fans Want Dexter Dead, Did They Get Their Wish? Ex-Producer Reveals Alternate Ending

The Drama Series 'Dexter' recently ended, and the fans wanted TV's favorite anti-hero dead. Somebody died, but did fans get what they wanted to see? The show's original producer who left in 2009 shares his own vision of how the series would end.

'Dexter' the series was centered on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a somewhat serial killer-vigilante driven by his parent's death (Batman references). Through eight seasons, he has murdered countless victim, and though he is the central character, there is a sense of justice if he would die.

However, it wasn't the way it went down. It was Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), Dexter's sister who died. She suffered a stroke in the last episode, and while on life support, Dexter pulls the plug. This act spurred some debate on whether it was heartless or heroic. Dexter then refuses to join a sojourn to Argentina, and plots his own death on a boat riding straight into a hurricane.

Dexter's last words:  "I destroy everyone I love. I can't let that happen to Hannah, to Harrison," he reasoned. "I have to protect them-from me." He also broke our hearts into a million pieces when he called Harrison and said, "I just want to tell you one last time that I love you."

However, in the last scene, a nameless lumberjack returns to is secluded home, and it was..Dexter Morgan.

Clyde Phillips, Dexter's original producer had a different, scarier vision:  Dexter in the lethal injection room, about to pay for his crimes.

"And in the gallery are all the people that Dexter killed-including the Trinity Killer and the Ice Truck Killer (his brother Rudy), LaGuerta who he was responsible killing, Doakes who he's arguably responsible for, Rita, who he's arguably responsible for, Lila. All the big deaths, and also whoever the weekly episodic kills were. They are all there.

"That's what I envisioned for the ending of Dexter. That everything we've seen over the past eight seasons has happened in the several seconds from the time they start Dexter's execution to the time they finish the execution and he dies.  Literally, his life flashed before his eyes as he was about to die. I think it would have been a great, epic, very satisfying conclusion."
