When fans learned that the "Fifty Shades of Grey" cast would include Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele and Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey, many were not pleased. But Penn Badgley, star of "Gossip Girl," says he thinks Dakota is "perfect" for the role in "Fifty Shades of Grey."

"Can I say she is perfect for that?" Penn Badgley laughed to E! News about Dakota Johnson cast as Anastasia Steele in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie, The Independent reports.

"I don't know if that's appropriate to say. I'm sure she's gonna nail it, no pun intended," he said.

"I haven't read the books. Dakota is wonderful. I have known her for years and we're doing a movie right now," Badgley added.

The former "Gossip Girl" star is impressed with the actress' talent after working with her on the upcoming film "Cymbeline."

The film is a modern take on William Shakespeare's play "Cymbeline," and Penn and Dakota play a couple. They were reportedly spotted filming a passionate kissing scene in a New York City park last Monday, The Independent reports.

E.L. James, the author of the bestselling book "Fifty Shades of Grey," announced on Twitter that Johnson was cast as Anastasia Steele in the movie adaptation.

"I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey," the author announced on Twitter recently, following it up with: "The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey."

Dakota, 23, will play a recent college graduate who meets Christian Grey, who introduces her to whole new world of erotica.

Charlie Hunnam, 33, is best known for his role in the TV show "Sons of Anarchy."
