GTA V Next Gen Console Release Set In 2014? Rockstar May Want To Sell As Many Copies As Possible

Grand Theft Auto V is undeniably one of the most successful game franchises in history, and as far as blockbuster sales is concerned, it could become the highest-grossing entertainment product of all time. But in spite millions of units sold, there are still millions more who are waiting for GTA V next gen console release.

Unfortunately, it seems highly unlikely that it would hit the stores this year, or even early next year for that matter.

According to Baird analyst Colin Sebastian, the release date of GTA V for next gen consoles may be as late as early next summer. But why?

"We are now modeling 13-14 million units shipped in F2Q. We believe there is still potential upside to our targets," Sebastian said. "However, given the possibility that sales of GTA are front-loaded, we will await further sales data before adjusting our expectations further."

This just means that even if Rockstar already has the next version for next-gen consoles (which would be announced later this year), it might still hold the release to "help extend the value of the franchise."

Selling $1 billion in just three days since the release is indeed an outstanding feat for GTA V, but Rockstar needs to focus on the current version first so that it could sell as much units as possible, before moving on to the next generation consoles. The lack of any announcement is also a hint that the company wants fans to purchase the game now and not wait for the next-gen release.

Meanwhile, an alleged PC version is currently in the works and is rumored to be released in late November and early December.
