Burger King Challenges McDonald's With Healthier French Fries: Claims To Have 40% Less Fat, 30% Fewer Calories At A Higher Price

Burger King is throwing down the gauntlet with McDonald's by debuting new, lower-calorie French fries called "Satisfries."

This week, Burger King is debuting the new fries which claims to have 30% less fat and 20% fewer calories compared to Burger King's current fries (which will still be available).

Compared to McDonald's fries, "Satisfries" has 40% less fat and 30% fewer calories.

"Small changes create a big impact," says Alex Macedo, president of Burger King North America. "This will grow, just like diet soda grew over time."

Reportedly, the Burger King fries use essentially the same ingredients as its regular fries. The only change is the amount of a few ingredients, which Burger King refuses to identify.

"It's not realistic to ask people to replace french fries with carrots or celery sticks," says dietitian Keri Gans according to USA Today. "This is like meeting people halfway."

In a move that could shake up the fast food industry, McDonald's remains steadfast in serving its fries and not changing the formula.

"We know that our customers love McDonald's iconic world famous fries and we remain focused on serving them to our McDonald's 69 million customers every day around the world," says McDonald's spokeswoman Ofelia Casillas.

The only catch to the Burger King fries, however, is that it is slightly pricier than its traditional fries. With the price difference, perhaps the competition between Burger King and McDonald's is not over yet.
