Miley Cyrus, Rihanna Called 'Pimp And Prostitute' By Annie Lennox; Lady Gaga Peps Up The Trend With Her Nude ArtPop Album Cover

Miley Cyrus and Rihanna's overtly sensual music videos have caused quite a stir.

Annie Lennox is the new addition to the brigade of people concerned about the growing trend of sexualized performances by leading youth icons Miley Cyrus and Rihana.

In her Facebook Fan page post dated October 5, 2013, Lennox slammed the singers (without naming them) for their excessively sexualized performance videos.

"I have to say that I'm disturbed and dismayed by the recent spate of overtly sexualised performances and videos. You know the ones I'm talking about. It seems obvious that certain record companies are peddling highly styled pornography with musical accompaniment. As if the tidal wave of sexualised imagery wasn't already bombarding impressionable young girls enough..I believe in freedom of speech and expression, but the market forces don't give a toss about the notion of boundaries," posted Annie.

She concluded her tirade with, "As if it's all justified by how many millions of dollars and U tube hits you get from behaving like pimp and prostitute at the same time. It's a glorified and monetized form of self harm."

Though Annie did not name any one explicitly, there were more than enough hints to guess that she was alluding to the Twerking Miley Cyrus and 'Pour it Up' singer Rihanna.

Clarifying her stand on the issue, Lennox added a day later that it is not about freedom of expression or celebration of sensuality. The trend of sexual imageries in pop media is bothering because a high percentage of fans and followers include 'impressionable young fans' who run the risk of being misguided.

She insisted that these videos, if not moderated, be at least accompanied with an X-rated tag so as to prevent children from being exposed to the licentious content.

Before Lennox's condemnation could make news and strike resonance with parents and like-minded critics, Lady Gaga's new ArtPop album cover was released.

Born This Way singer has posed naked for the cover, with a blue ball perched in front of her.

Clearly, the trio - Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna - has put the gauntlet down. But Lennox and others do not really have to worry. Everything ends after charting their course. This too shall pass.
