iPad 5, iPad Mini 2 Release Date: Smaller Tablet’s Specs Include Retina Display, Will Come In Gold Option Similar To iPhone 5S, Arriving October 22

iPad 5, iPad Mini 2 release date rumors is now reaching a fever pitch and Forbes magazine recently reported that Apple is set to announce the next line of iPads on October 22. The Cupertino tech giant will also be releasing the OS X Mavericks and the high-octane Mac Pro on the said date.

Chinese web site Pad Zol published some photos of a gold iPad Mini, which is a color that is now gaining popularity thanks to the new iPhone 5S, the Business Times reported. The website also posted photo of a device with Touch ID fingerprint sensor, another feature that was very much a key spec in the recently released iPhone upgrade. A key feature of the smaller iPad that has always been floated is that will have Retina Display, which many expect will be one of the centerpiece upgrades for this year’s new models.

French website, Mac Generation, initially reported that the release dates for the new tablets is on October 15, but recent rumors are now pointing to a new release dates with many more speculators agreeing on the revised October 22 speculated timeline. Microsoft-owned company Nokia is expected to make an announcement on the same date of up to six new devices according to some reports.

Other specs being speculated for the upcoming iPad 5 includes a faster 64-bit A7 processor chip paired with M7 GPU chip, which is expected to bring faster processing to the tablet, according to the Business Times. It will also have the earlier mentioned TouchID fingerprint sensor, 5MP rear camera and internal storage of up to 28 GB.

The iPad Mini 2, on the other hand, is expected to retain its 7.9 inches screen display and add the 64-bit A7 processor and Touch ID fingerprint sensor, the Business Times reported.

The bigger iPad is expected to be thinner, lighter and smaller than its current version, according to Techradar.

There have been no news on what the prices of the new iPads, but it’s unlikely that Apple will raise the entry-level price for the bigger tablet at $399 and $499 for Retina Display, and the iPad Mini at $329.
