Upcoming Android Phones 2013: Samsung Galaxy Round Now Official, World's First Smartphone With Curved Display

After weeks of speculation, Samsung has finally made the announcement - the Galaxy Round, the world's very first smartphone that features a curved display. As one of the upcoming Android phones in 2013, the phone does not only boast its curved screen, but also superb specs as well.

In an announcement in the manufacturer's website a couple of days ago, the Galaxy Round will have a 5.7" Super Flexible AMOLED screen with 1920x1080p resolution. We can note here that the resolution stays the same, as well as the crisp colors that AMOLED technology brings into the table.

However, instead of the robust screens we have come to love over the past few years, Samsung placed its self-developed flexible display. LG has also been rumored to be developing its own smartphone with a similar bendable screen, and even a curved battery to go with, but it seems Samsung has won the race this time.

Apart from the intriguing screen, the Galaxy Round is very much a disguised Galaxy Note 3. It has a Snapdragon 800 chipset, quad-core Krait CPU clocked at 2.3Ghz, 3GB of RAM, microSD support, a 13MP shooter and a 2MP front cam.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Korean manufacturer claims that the curved display is not just for show. Using gravity sensors, the display activates once the phone is tilted towards the user's direction.

Here's a very short video on how this feature works:

Of course, we still cannot tell whether this curved display phone as well as its supposed features are truly functional in the real world or are mere gimmicks. We'll get back to you once we receive updates regarding the international release date of the Galaxy Round.
